SATO introduces DateRight™ labelling solution to help guarantee food freshness and meet safety requirements
Singapore, April 18 2008 – SATO, a pioneer in the Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) industry and a leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions announced its cost-effective labelling solution s that enable food operators guarantee the ingredients used are fresh, and better manage their food operations and supplies.
Operators in food service restaurants, especially in the Quick Service Restaurants – popularly known as fast food restaurants – face challenges daily to manage food shelf life to guarantee food freshness, and avoid spoilage or worse food contamination. Labelling systems, if any at all, in use are inadequate to ensure freshness. The use of tape, for instance, to record dates on food packaging is a food hazard. It leaves an adhesive residue that can be a receptacle for bacteria. Operators often rely on information being recorded by hand, which leads to inconsistencies and confusion: an unacceptable risk in the food service industry.
The SATO DateRight™ labelling solution is centred on either the HT200e printer, or any other appropriate SATO printer with touch screen option, or SATO hand labellers and suitable labels. The HT200e’s automated time and date calculation feature avoids unnecessary errors when marking use-by dates and time, ensuring compliance with food safety standards. The printer can optionally be connected to a touch screen for a more interactive way to record information for easy, reliable monitoring. The hand labeller-based solution represents a basic yet sturdy solution providing a clear visual guide for food freshness indication.
The labelling solution feature a few label types such as DateRight™-Freeze, DateRight™-Peel and DateRight™-Dissolve that come with characteristics designed to meet application requirements peculiar to this industry. The various labels can withstand cold temperature challenges and can adhere to different surfaces, from corrugated surfaces to materials such as plastic and paper. All labels adhere firmly during use, and offer clean removability leaving no stain or residue.
The clear and simple-to-understand labels mean that kitchen staff do not require much training to carry out the simple instructions. The labelling solution also enables food operators effectively maintain a FIFO-based rotation system, thus saving valuable time spent to maintain food stock rotation.
“At a time when food safety requirements worldwide are more stringent than ever, businesses are having to balance the investment in labelling systems, equipment and training to justify the benefits. The SATO DateRight™ labelling solution delivers real value in terms of cost versus benefits, as well as the service to society in maintaining food safety standards,” said Kaz Matsuyama, Managing Director of SATO International.
