SATO offers suppliers to Sam’s Club cost-effective solution to meet RFID Compliance Mandate

Singapore, February 13 2008 - SATO, a pioneer in the Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) industry and a leader in barcode printing, labelling, and EPC/RFID solutions announces that it is leveraging its extensive experience in RFID solution installation to enable suppliers to, Sam’s Club, a subsidiary of Wal-Mart, to meet the requirements of their RFID mandate.

In 2003, Wal-Mart issued a mandate for its suppliers to tag their pallets and cases of product with RFID by 2005 to improve the tracking of items in the supply chain and better manage goods flow and store inventory levels. More than reportedly 15,000 suppliers to date still have not complied with the RFID mandate.

Wal-Mart is looking to drive its mandate compliance using its 700-store Sam's Club division as an example of RFID retail supply-chain technology implementation, down to the item level, by 2010: the phased compliance timeline is spread over the next 21 months, with a pallet fine that can rise up to $3 for suppliers who don't meet compliance by October 2009.

The suppliers to Sam’s Club, a members-only warehouse club, can benefit from using of SATO’s Ready-Set-Solved! EPC Gen 2RFID solution to meet the looming mandate compliance deadline. The “ready-to-go” SATO solution includes printers and software that offer ease-of-use, reliability, and durability together with the required consumables and services making it a dependable and cost effective way to satisfy the RFID tagging requirements. Additionally, SATO’s solution is scaleable and can easily be integrated into existing ERP and other back end systems and applications.

“The suppliers to Sam’s Club are right in trusting SATO’s capabilities and experience in executing RFID compliance within a given timeframe. Our customers worldwide are looking beyond rapidly meeting their RFID compliance requirements,” said Kaz Matsuyama, Managing Director of SATO International.

“SATO’s wide network worldwide, notably with strategic locations in Asia, which accounts for a significant share of imports from the Wal-Mart suppliers, offers supply chain efficiency and compelling economic benefits to our customers.”
