What is GHS?

GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals)
July 2003, the United Nations recommended a globally harmonized system which was
called GHS, to address classification of chemicals, labels and safety data sheets.

According to the globally standard regulations, GHS is to address classification of chemicals by types of hazard, and present the information on labels and material safety data sheets (MSDS) which are easily noticed.

Before this implementation begins, there are misgivings about industrial accidents such
as explosions, toxicity, etc. happening in every corner of the world, due to in appropriate handling methods and lack of awareness of certain hazardous nature when handling chemical substances.

In Japan based on this United Nations recommendation, a revised Occupational Health
and Safety Law that improved on publication accuracy of labelling and documentation
was implemented from 1st Jan 2006.
